About the Editor / Contact Information

My name is Don Berg. I work and live with my wife and best friend Christine on Long Island, New York. We’re the proud parents of three great kids and grandparents to the cutest one-year-old that you’ve ever seen. We spend as much time as we can at our country home in southern Vermont. It’s an earth-bermed, passive solar house that I designed in the early 1980s. There’s a pond, a pretty stream, some fruit trees and property that needs much more work than I put into it. I’m planning on a new small barn in the near future and a new tractor as soon as we can afford it.

I’m a member of the American Institute of Architects and the Society of Architectural Historians. I studied architecture, environmental design and photography at Rhode Island School of Design and have degrees in architecture and fine arts. My early design work was mostly on commercial buildings. More recently, I’ve worked on custom country homes, historic renovations and churches.

Although most of my books on traditional American building and landscape design are out of print, you can find my latest book, American Country Building Design, at Amazon.com and other booksellers.

Magazines like Country Living, Home, Better Homes and Gardens, Grit, Mother Earth News, The Old House Journal, Traditional Building and others have been kind enough to publish my designs, articles and interviews. I’ve lectured on American Folk Architecture at the Museum of American Folk Art and have been both a guest and consultant on HGTV.

Currently, I design barns, edit the Country Building Directory and prepare plans and building details for TodaysPlans.com, BackroadHomes.com and other web sites.
